The more I read or listened to so many respected wrestling columnists or podcasters advocate the need to unify the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles along with unifying the Intercontinental and United States Titles as well makes me feel not only baffled but almost furious. I wrote last week the WWE is filled with so much talent there is a need for another title. The WWE wants to continue to expand, and before they can make more movies, sell out Olympic sized arenas, make more action figures and video games they need to take a step back and really push the professional wrestlers they have under contract. Someone having a title and another one wanting it should be the easiest storylines to write. There is already a dispute between two, three or even four Superstars. In a day and age where the WWE is a sports entertainment company wanting to generate as much revenue as possible without spending the proper amount of time making sure the product is good enough to generate said revenue shouldn’t they want to feature as many talents as they can in the six and one half hours they have programmed into your television each week?
Most weeks we are all stuck with status quo, seeing the same people fighting for the same reasons. For this reason, I feel at least, is what drives fans/smarks/columnists to write or talk about getting rid of the World Heavyweight and United States Titles. Well you all have already given up on the entire mid card talent just let most of the WWE executives. As I mentioned in last week’s column, the WWE’s talent is as high as it’s been in a long time. At any given point there are ten plus Superstars to be called upon for a main event feud, a countless number of guys that can work in the mid card, and even two Divas tag teams in The Bella Twins and the Funkadactyls. Every single man and woman in the back every night are signed for a reason, the WWE believes they can perform at the highest level there is in professional wrestling, why waste that talent on only house shows and catering?
It all boils down to one simple idea, do what is good for business; I’m not talking wins and losses, places on the card or even the hierarchy scale that is the WWE. There is a lot of talent that sits in the backstage area night in and night out that can make you money, there are even a few guys that can make you more money than you are paying him, and isn’t that business is all about? Many people criticize a lot of things the WWE does, but one thing no one can deny is the WWE has made the most money for themselves and everyone involved than any other wrestling promotion in the history of this great sport; but to quote a few great wrestlers, you want to know why Vince is a millionaire when he should be a billionaire? Simple, Status quo.
