The Royal Rumble is right around the corner, and it is starting to look like we are all in store for a Rock and Punk collision in Phoenix, Arizona. While many believe it’s almost a foregone conclusion The Rock will beat CM Punk ending his title reign at 434 days (6th longest in WWE history). I am here to tell you why The Rock winning the WWE Title is not only the wrong way to go but it’s lazy and just plain disrespectful.
Let’s fast forward to the Royal Rumble, if The Rock goes over Punk for the WWE Title we can all assume John Cena wins the Rumble match itself. Thus setting up a WrestleMania rematch and probably another night of Cena rapping and Dwayne referring to John Cena’s penis or lack thereof on his acoustic guitar. While I am not opposed to John Cena and The Rock having a rematch, but why does the WWE Title need to be involved? If The Rock does beat CM Punk do not expect a rematch at Elimination Chamber the following month, expect a promo from Dwayne via satellite somewhere on set. If The Rock does win the WWE Title don’t expect Dwayne to be on Raw and SmackDown much, Jay Leno yes, Raw no way. Are the payouts for two pay per views really worth throwing away everything CM Punk has done the past few years? If The Rock does in fact defeat CM Punk at the Royal Rumble, expect John Cena to beat him at WrestleMania, Punk to beat Cena sooner than later and it’s all back to square one now isn’t?
There are so many more CREATIVE ideas that come to mind if CM Punk does in fact defeat Dwayne at the Royal Rumble, better stories to develop than just quick money-making pay offs that Vince McMahon so desires when the calendar turns to the New Year. But what do I know; I’m just a Paul Heyman guy. Hoping that Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns are here to stay and eventually aligning with CM Punk and Paul Heyman I have big time payoff to the invest the WWE made last April; Brock Lesnar.
Heyman and Punk align themselves with Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns, the three NXT guys pick up titles themselves and Team Heyman Guys run the WWE. This is where Lesnar comes into play. Brock, without Heyman knowing, comes back to the WWE as a secret entrant into the Royal Rumble and wins. The next night on Raw Paul Heyman fully expects Brock to join the group and take on the World Heavy Weight Champion (Hopefully Dolph Ziggler by now). Brock tells Heyman no, and he is coming for his prize client CM Punk. A nice way for Brock to ride off into the sunset, unless he resigns, and a great way to extend Punk’s reign of respect; I beat the guy who ended Triple H’s wrestling career (for the time being or unless we get Undertaker against Triple H again).
CM Punk should be headlining WrestleMania this year, and it should be for the WWE Title, his opponent almost doesn’t matter. You may disagree from this statement and possibly send me threatening words via twitter but CM Punk is the WWE’s number one guy now, not John Cena. John Cena’s tenure as the constant star of the WWE is almost over. He is willing to take a back seat to Dwayne and Ryback why can’t he take a back seat to the best in the world?
