NXT started off with a huge tag team match up featuring the Usos against Johnny Curtis and Michael McGillicutty. Johnny started off the match show boating in front of Jimmy Uso as the match began. Jimmy Uso took the early advantage, capitalizing off the arrogance of Curtis. Jimmy had Curtis in the corner until McGillicutty tapped Curtis’ back for a hidden tag catching The Uso brother off guard. McGillicutty dominated Jimmy, laughing in the face of Jey Uso in the corner as he watched his brother take a beating. Michael turned his attention back to Jimmy Uso; Jimmy jumped and got the hot tag to Jey Uso. Jey was on fire knocking McGillicutty to the floor several times, Curtis came into the ring to help his fallen teammate but to no avail. Jey tagged in Jimmy and he hit the big splash off the top rope for the win to open NXT with a bang.
Backstage Trent Barreta was being interview until Kassius Ohno walked into the picture. Kassius told Trent that his win over him last week was a fluke. A video package was shown about the debut of Roman Reigns on this week’s show.
Xavier Woods was out next to take on Leo Kruger. Woods took early advantage on the bigger Kruger; yelling “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” as he held down Kruger. It wasn’t long until Kruger knocked Woods out of the hold and to the mat. Leo slammed Woods down again for a near fall. Woods backed into a corner by Kruger; Woods climbed to the top rope and went for a high risk move that didn’t go Xavier’s way. Leo picked up Woods and hit a reverse DDT for the win.
A video package was shown for Big E. Langston before his interview. Langston was asked about the five count, where he holds down his victims until the count of five, unlike the usual three count. Vickie Guerrero walked out and said she wanted to recruit new talent and she was looking at Big E. Langston didn’t like what he heard and clapped some sort of chalk dust in Vickie’s face as NXT went to commercial break.
A video package was shown for the main event of the evening featuring Tyson Kidd taking on Antonio Cesaro for the United States Title.
Jinder Mahal made his way out, he said he was the crown jewel of NXT and all that was missing was his crown, the NXT Title. Justin Gabrielle walked down the aisle and told Mahal he had his chance, and he has to wait in the back of line. Drew McIntyre was next to the ring, as he demanded a title shot against Seth Rollins as well. The fourth man down to demand a title shot was Bo Dallas, as Bo began his rant about why he deserved a shot Dusty Rhodes’ music hit. Dusty said everything was earned in the WWE and NXT, with that said next week’s main event was a fatal four way match between Jinder Mahal, Justin Gabrielle, Bo Dallas and Drew McIntyre.
It was time for the debut of Roman Reigns; his first opponent was the up and coming CJ Parker. Reigns came out firing dominating the young talent. Out of nowhere Parker hit a big flying fist on Roman. Parker went for another blow but Roman caught Parker and began hitting big elbows to the shoulders of Parker wearing him down. Reigns stalked CJ as he slowly made his way back on his feet; Parker turned around and was hit with an unnamed big time throw down for the 1, 2, and 3 for Roman Reigns in his debut.
It was time for the main event, Tyson Kidd against the Antonio Cesaro for the United States title with Jim Ross joining William Regal on commentary. Cesaro opened with the upper hand, applying technical maneuvers to Kidd. Both men are great tacticians and it was shown throughout the match. Cesaro thought he had Kidd beat on the mat until Tyson reversed the hold for a near fall, forcing Cesaro outside to regroup.
Once the champ was back in the ring Kidd went right back on the offense, Tyson out witted Antonio and rolled him up in a small package for a near fall. Cesaro’s frustration grew on his face, attempting to slower the pace with Tyson applying a bear hug. Tyson once again picked up the pace flying around the ring. From the apron Tyson flipped back into the ring and rolled up Cesaro once again for another near fall. Tyson took to the outside again and went for the spring board elbow and again only got a two count. Tyson attempted a sharp shooter on Cesaro, but the champ wasn’t fooled. Cesaro blocked the attempt and hit his finisher on Tyson for the win and to retain his title. It was a great match just as expect. A must see match of the week.
